Entitled “beast,” the ‘internal ferocity within a beast’ is the concept that Tatsuro Horikawa portrays by reconstructing the fur, skin and scales of various organisms onto his wares. Strong deconstruction and proportion play. A departure from previous collections but consistent themes with the “massive, contrasting volume” elements from the prior is shown.

In contemporary terms, wool is jacquard. Aged, hard and decayed wild animal hair is needle punched. Non-uniform entanglement of fibers made way for a wild, breathing, living skin-like surface.

Hoof sneakers look like animal bones. Boots have wide angles yet have a sharp line to the toe. Leathers in various treatments create a unique pattern- whether it be scales or what resembled fur. We as humans express the beautiful but ferocious nature of an organism, in the same vain, disorderly, all-surviving and inevitable evolution. Endure and live well.
