This is a whole new interpretation of Punk!!
In its most genuine meaning, the Punk kid, the grotty snotty-nosed kid, the “morveux” in French, and “Hanattare Kozou” in Japanese… The very first rebellion of your life is often addressed to your own mother, Yohji says. The whole collection started with that image of the overwhelmed mother who cannot pay too much attention to details, ends up dressing up her child in a very neglectful manner. But she doesn’t want him to get sick, so she bundles him up with layers and layers of T-shirts… In the first looks, models were muffed in big puffer jackets with XXL T-shirts over, their necks were wrapped-up in large detachable scarves. Many pieces were decorated with arty motifs, either stiched, embroidered or printed. The Yohji Yamamoto collection has become a real junction where various artists come to express their homage to the designer. Ongoing collaboration with Yuuka Asakura and newly featured Rie Miyazawa. Yohji too has made some sketches and portraits this time. Then, a series of strapped black jackets and pants comes like a great wine right after the first bite of the main dish. Squeezed volumes on some parts of the jackets, shortened pants bottoms, the pattern-makers took special care in opening vents under the armpits and in the crotch of pants so as to facilitate the movement.
“So many people have been pumping up volumes, strapping up Punk homages, wearing out cloth, and blurring gender boundaries, it’s easy to think it’s all edgy and new, it’s easy to forget that designers like Yohji Yamamoto were there right at the start, pioneering it all. He referenced a few of those greatest hits today, in down-stuffed suiting and buckled parachute shirts, models in fraying knits and oversized coats with skinny, girlish braids (but also, a lot of the time, beards). It all still looked great.”
