BOOK: MARTIN MARGIELA AT LAFAYETTE ANTICIPATIONS by Martin Margiela
MARTIN MARGIELA AT LAFAYETTE ANTICIPATIONS by Martin Margiela now available at Dover Street Market Ginza 7F BIBLIOTHECA
This short guide presents the exhibition project and gives some keys to the works.
The color scheme chosen by Martin Margiela and the printing technique used add a little more mystery to this artistic journey.
This book premiere of Margiela's art, beautifully designed by Irma Boom, demonstrates his concern with corporeality.
For the first time, more than 40 artworks by Belgian fashion designer Martin Margiela are presented in this book, which was published in conjunction with his first solo display as an artist at Lafayette Anticipations in Paris (born 1957). The book further promotes the argument that Martin Margiela has always been an artist by reproducing photographs of installations, sculptures, collages, paintings, and films. Margiela has been a household name in the fashion world since the late 1980s, and throughout his career as a designer, he has purposefully upended fashion traditions through his materials and runway presentations.
The majority of the works in the Lafayette Anticipations exhibition were created at the Foundation's studio, and they return to the artist's interests.
Irma Boom collaborated closely with Margiela on the catalog, which serves as a "making of" the show, displaying both finished and in-progress images of the sculptures.
