Yohji Yamamoto A/W16-17 show footage
It seems sometimes difficult to write reviews on some collections. Sometimes the collection becomes a whole entity by itself and makes it difficult to explain it by words. There was no obvious theme to determine an explicit title, no apparent feature on the clothes that could conveniently summarize the collection in a few keywords. It was just pure Yohji Yamamoto. All was in the process of subtraction, Yohji said. The heightened pattern-making skills of his studio are revealed in those vertical silhouettes and in the variety of the dropped-sleeves constructions. Everything was so subtle and sensory that the models who were actually wearing the clothes might have apprehended the spirit of the collection better than anyone else in the venue. They all seemed inhabited, walking with serene confidence and calm strength. No crinolines, no petticoats, no dramatic hoop dresses this time around, but much poetry and soulfulness, just real clothing by Yohji Yamamoto...
